Ms. Gina Watson, Deputy Director, Caribbean Regional Development Program, at Global Affairs Canada (GAC) will be speaking to MMJC students on Monday, September 19th. (MC, Rm. 6, 11 am)
Her remarks will cover her own career in communications and in public service at CIDA (now GAC).
Gina began her public service career in 1988 as an Communications Officer at the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). In July 1993 she assumed the position of Senior Program Officer for International Humanitarian Assistance. From 2000-2009, Gina held positions as Senior Program Officer related to development programming in Ecuador and the Balkans. She was appointed to her current position in January 2015.
In January 2010, Gina was appointed Deputy Director of the Ukraine Development Program. In December 2014 she began a special assignment on the Middle East Program, with responsibility for Canada’s involvement in the Deauville Partnership. Since assuming her present position with the Caribbean Regional Development Program, she has been involved with Canada’s relationships and development programming in 14 Caribbean nations, with field offices in Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana .
Ms Watson was born and raised in London, Ontario. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Queen’s University where she majored in French literature, and a Master of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario. She is married and the mother of two children.
